Project C devlog 2 - playtesting build

I wrote the notes for this one on the 13. and forgot to post it on my itch thinking I did it already…

Date: 16. 5. 2025

Activity:

  • Was working on the demo version for the game, mainly refining the existing stuff I made and adding bits to it/editing them.

Notes:

  • I implemented the following since the last devlog version:
    • I setup scenes and scene transitions
    • I remade the whole power-up system I made because it was done quite poorly
    • added enemy AI with a different behaviour for some enemies
    • enemy spawning ( fixed some stuff )
  • I went with a simplistic design ( they were triangles with eyes )
    • The idea is you’re an elitist mouse protecting your perfectly good yellow cheese and the others are random mice that try and take it from you, spitting blue/rotten cheese at you
    • I spent way too much time on a procedural cheese shader since I naively thought it would be pretty easy and could look nice, the outcome are the UI power-up buttons in the game. I’m not too happy with it, but I couldn’t really achieve a better look and I sinked so much time into this useless thing that I had to keep it in to not feel like I just wasted time ( I did learn quite a bit about doing stuff with the shader graph though, so that’s that I guess… )
      • I don’t really plan on changing it for now anyways, so it’ll probably stay in the final build.
  • I implemented enemy scaling, but messed up how steep the animation curve was and really misjudged how hard the game actually is.

Invested time:

  • Not sure how much exactly, but I think I crossed the 40h threshold overall, which seems a bit sad to me considering the state the game was in for the playtesting.
